(cont. from her cottage)
The pegasus then came back, but this time decided to sit on the opposite side of Skydancer. She did not want to be near him. She looked at Leaper. She felt embarrassed and had hoped that Leaper didn't think of her as a weirdo or something. She sighed and tried her best to smile at the others, but also tried not to look at Skydancer.

(cont. from Dream Castle)
The elegant light purple unicorn walked along Dream Valley, smiling with beauty written all over her. She looked around and noticed a group of ponies at a picnic and realized that some of them were Earth ponies. Sparkle smiled to herself with an evil gleam in her eye. She decided to step in to see what they were chatting about.
As she made her entrance she smiled a charming, beautiful smile of hers. "Hello there." She said in her beautiful voice. "What is everyone up to these days?"

"Madam, I am honoured to finally meet you. I am your most ardent admirer."
Firefly's eyebrows raised in pleasant surprise as her mouth opened slightly in a tomboyish, crooked smile. Once his words sunk in a bit, the pegasus's eyes closed halfway, and the smile turned into that of a slightly more feminine one. Though, as always, it was hard to tell what Firefly was thinking simply by the expression on her face.
"Do you have a name?" She asked simply, glancing to Munchy for just a moment before returning her violet eyes to the stallion. "Apparently, you know mine."
"Skydancer's the name - and flying's the game."
Almost instantly, both Firefly's competitive streak and her fun-loving nature rose up inside her. "A professional, eh?" The mare raised an eyebrow, challenge riding on the edge of her words. "I do a bit of flying myself.." Firefly rose gracefully to her feet and stretched her wings out before tucking them back in place.

Skydancer took on the challenge at once. He arched his neck and stretched backwards, sort of like puppies do when they ask another dog to play. His ears were pricked and his eyes glimmering as he flapped his wings a bit.
"Indeed," he said. "I have heard as much." He straightened himself again. "I would be honoured if you'd race with me a little."
He shifted his forefeet. He was anxious to get to fly, and he wasn't particularly interested in anyone else in the picnic party.

"I would be honoured if you'd race with me a little."
Firefly's ears perked forward and her eyes lit up at the proposal. Would she race? Would she race!?
The pegasus kept her cool as she strode a few feet to the side, looking Skydancer up and down. He may actually prove to be a worthy competitor. Even in her middle age, Firefly still flew faster than most of the ponies she encountered.
The mare's heart began to pound as she felt the thrill of an impending race. Navy locks lifted slightly as she glanced into the distance of the valley, then tuirned back to Skydancer. Her voice took on a more dominant tone as she almost professionally proposed:
"Straight to the edge of the valley, around that big oak at the edge of the woods, and straight back here."
The pegasus looked at the yelow stallion for his approval, then slowly stretched out her legs, wings, and back, preparing for the short race.

Skydancer grinned, excited as Firefly agreed on racing with him. He leaped after her, landing right next to her, and stretched out his wings, preparing for takeoff.
"I'll be right.. ahead of you," he said to her, smirking and winking, his rainbow tail beating from side to side. It had been far too long since he'd raced last. His heartbeat was getting up and adrenaline was coursing through his veins. Knowing that himself and the mare could not have many years of age difference, he didn't think he had any advantages - but he had to tease her. He teased everyone.
He looked back over to Cascade, who was standing the closest.
"You," he said. "Sound us off."
Cascade rolled her eyes, but had to smile. She wondered if Firefly had finally found her match. Skydancer sure looked powerful. She couldn't help thinking with horror what the two might get up to together. Skydancer appeared at least as reckless as Firefly.
She got up, however, and went in view of both the racers, who were staring right ahead. She raised her hoof.
"Get set... on your mark... Go!" She jerked her hoof down.
Instantly, Skydancer bolted off.

"I'll be right.. ahead of you,"
"You wish, Seagulls," The pink mare retorted with a bit of sass and a grin. Firefly was thrilled with the idea of racing someone so outgoing, so much like herself. It was a refreshing change, in a way, and she was taking it head on.
"I wasn't given lightning bolts for nothing!"
"Get set... on your mark... Go!"
As soon as 'Go!' escaped Cascade's mouth, Firefly sprinted forward in a gallop, gaining speed before leaping into the sky. Her navy mane and tail whipped behind her as she climbed into the first air current she could find. Using the furthest feathers on her wings, she judged the wind as best she could to increase her speed. Not one to use up her energy in the beginning, she had caught up to Skydancer by the time they reached the tall tree.
Leaper watched with his heart in his throat, inwardly cheering for the mauve pegasus. His mouth was slightly agape at the speed and grace of the powerful pegasi, while at the same time grateful he hadn't been born with wings. He was accident prone enough as he was--adding a hundred feet + of altitude and travelling at break-neck speeds would NOT be a good equation.

Skydancer considered for a fleeting moment if he should make sure she won, so there'd be no hard feelings - he rather liked the mare. Then he came to the quick conclusion that she'd be more likely to be offended if he'd slow down purposefully, so he decided to do his very best. He had the feeling she'd be hard enough to beat while actually trying to win.
Cascade shook her mane off the grass Skydancer had scattered all over her, and then looked out after the pegasi. They appeared both be doing well, and saving their strength. She was a little nervous for Firefly - and, yes, she supposed, for Skydancer as well - and hoped nothing would happen to them. Hoped neither would attempt any foolish tricks while flying.
Moondancer got up a little and watched the pegasi fly away. Her ears swivelled around nervously. She wasn't sure what she was nervous about, but as she was nervous for the most of the time, she didn't bother to think anything more to it. She just came to think that it might be safe to go a little to the side when the pegasi would return. Who knew what kind of a landing they'd make?
Up in the air, Skydancer found himself straining but not gaining any headway. He began to be quite impressed. She seemed to be everything her reputation spoke for.

The pair had passed the halfway point and was making the home stretch. Firefly felt the familiar sensation of her muscles churning at full speed, thought not as easily as usual since she had filled her stomach not too long ago.
Firefly's purple eyes squinted against the air whipping past her face. She climbed slightly in the air, rising above Skydancer. The pegasus then folded her wings slightly, tucked her limbs, and made a hawk-dive toward the end, gradually opening her wings as she dove in a smooth effortless-looking arc toward the picnic-ing ponies.
To her surprise and amazement, however, she caught a yellow muzzle out of the corner of her eye just before they both flew straight over the heads of the others, the finish line. They tied.
The pink pegasus pulled upward after passing the group, then rolled sideways so she was facing the opposite direction. She then landed near the onlookers, with only a small cramp in her abdomen in the way of discomfort. Firefly tossed her mane away from her face and paused to catch her breath.
As Skydancer too landed, Firefly grinned. "Good race," She complimented, holding out a pink hoof. While very competitive, Firefly was rarely a sore loser, or tie-er, in this case.

Skydancer found the competition indeed worth his while. He had done a long trek that morning, so he, too, was not at his top condition. Still, like Firefly, he could push his muscles to their best performance, and was able to give a good race. Towards the end, he noticed Firefly swooping towards the finish mark, but he wasn't about to let her win, not anymore. The thought of losing intentionally - indeed, losing at all - could not even enter his mind anymore. The wind in his rainbow mane and under his wings was enough to wipe away all such thoughts.
He finished right alongside her, though it took him a bit of a leap to get his muzzle next to hers. After they'd flown over the picnic spot, he flopped open his wings, turning them against the air current, and made a little loop backwards just for the sheer joy of getting to fly again. Then he swooped in a curve and came down on the ground next to her, slipping just a little with one backfoot on the grass. He corrected himself immediately, however, and smiled to Firefly as she offered out a hoof.
"The best I've had in years," Skydancer said and accepted her hoof, shaking it casually. He flapped his wings, stretched them and then folded them close. He felt a little strained, but would have rather died than showed it. "We have to do it again sometime."
The yellow pegasus was looking at her with his dark eyes glimmering. His heart was still beating, but he wondered if it was for a different reason this time. This mare was really something!

"We have to do it again sometime."
"Of course," Firefly grinned, walking a circle before laying down in the grass once again, "We will need a re-match, after all," She winked.
Something about that stallion really got under the peg's skin. He wasn't like many she had known, and so much like herself. For a moment, her reasonable side warned her, that could be a disaster waiting to happen, but as Firefly often concluded, her reasonable side was far too overrated. She retorted within her own mind, ..or.. it could be something wonderful.
Reclining comfortably in the grass, Firefly's eyes studied the dark magenta ones of the yellow pegasus. She tried her best to keep her eyes from his beautiful rainbow mane, and did so by picking up a lingering strawberry and biting off its end.
"So, Skydancer," Firefly said without a hint of being nervous or intimidated, "What brings you around here?"

Skydancer watched her settle down again, taking careful note of her every move. She was graceful yet powerful. The tips of her yellow wings fluttered a little. He really liked Firefly. Certainly, there was grace and power in Rain as well, but she was a Princess, and far too young for Skydancer.
He stepped high as he pranced off to the side from the others, close to Firefly, and then threw himself comfortably onto the ground, gathering his feet under him and resting there comfortably. His dark magenta eyes were fixed on her as he watched her eat the strawberry.
"I'm returning home, actually," he answered, not letting her question remind him of his bad encounter with his brother earlier. "After a long, long time. It's just time to come home, I guess." His eyes wandered around a little, as though he was taking in the landscape around him, and for a moment he looked more serious. Then he grinned again and looked at Firefly. "And to this particular hill, I was brought by your beauty." He flicked a meaningful ear and winked.

Heart Throb watched as the two pegasus ponies raced. She was amazed at how they both were truly excellent flyers. She still hated Skydancer for what he did to her, though. So Heart Throb wanted Firefly to win.
Princess Sparkle watched the two take off. She couldn't believe they all were ignoring her! And she was the most beautiful unicorn in Dream Valley! Sparkle sighed as she sat there, watching the 2 pegasi flying....
Heart Throb watched as they landed. It was a tie? Heart Throb blinked. She didn't really expect them to tie! But a race is a race, and there's no going back..
Princess Sparkle also saw them land, and noticed they had tied. "Pegasus ponies...." Sparkle muttered under her breath.

"After a long, long time. It's just time to come home, I guess."
Firefly nodded, though she wasn't aware of Skydancer's background story. It pleased her to see that someone else valued Dream Valley as much as she did--for it was her home, too, and she never dreamed of leaving it for long. Well, the occaisional adventure for sure, but she too would come home.
"And to this particular hill, I was brought by your beauty."
Firefly gave the stallion a playful, almost disbelieving look. He certainly was a charmer! While Firefly refused to let herself be won over by flattery, she didn't stop herself from enjoying it in the least.
The pegasus was quickly growing restless, however, even despite the short race with the rainbow-haired stallion. It was her nature, to be active and on the move. Much as she loved to spend time with her friends, she was really one to just follow the wind.
"So," She glanced sideways at Skydancer, a bit of a natural flirt herself, "If my 'beauty' were to fly off just now, would you find yourself in tow?" Her purple eyes contained almost a daring element, as she again rose to her feet and looked skyward. The sky, to such a pegasus, was as enticing as a cool stream on a hot summer day, no matter what the weather.
"Pegasus ponies...."
Firefly sighed dramatically, retorting to no one imparticular, "Princess ponies....." then smirked, the teasing a noticible trait of her personality.
"It's been a slice, girls!" The bold pink pegasus reared, winking to her friends and inadvertently including Leaper in the 'girls'. The green stallion could be heard saying quietly, "It was n-nice meeting you."
With one last glance to Skydancer, Firefly gracefully began her ascent into the sky.
