Gan Ning sighed quitely as he stood on the deck, admireing how the sea looked at night. Few things ever made him feel totaly at peace, but one that never failed was the vast ocean with the full moon shineing down in the sky, the stars turning the black canves into a twinkleing sea of it's own. Since the Captain had put Quicksand under his charge, he had spent what was left of the day teaching her how to do more with sand than create pools of sinking doom; He showed her how to draw it from the seabed, and how to reshape it's form as he could water.
He smirked as he remebered the Sand Snake she made; She really was a fast learner, he gave her credit for that. At this rate, it wouldn't be long till she was able to start making things from rock. His ear twiched towards the castle, before he turned in that direction, his eyes narrowing. "Somethings amiss here... And I'll bet Cutter's gold teeth that those other pirates are behind it." He thought about telling Tiger, but then again, he didn't want to get him upset if it was just a ill feeling.
Then again, when the sea appered to turn a tad violent, it was a sure sign something VERY bad was going to be happening soon. Jumping down to the lower deck, the bells on his chest chimed loudly. "Hunch or not, I better inform the Cap."
((Hope you don't mind the jump, guys; Seemed the other one was dieing. And I hope you don't mind that Gan Ning was able to up your power options, Quicky.))

((Oh, it's fine - good to see the storyline moving along. And I'm sure Quicksand's evil side(if such a thing exists) enjoys the power. )) Quicksand stood at the edge of the ship, blinking tiredly and too exhausted to be nervous about being so close to the water's edge. She'd spent what seemed like forever shaping up her powers with Gan Ning's help, and although she tried and it seemed to be helping, it had really taken a lot out of her. She looked over and saw Gan Ning looking in the direction of the castle, and frowned. The others all seemed nervous, but after her sheltered life she wasn't naturally as sharp at picking up on impending danger. When the stallion headed off she picked up a trot to catch up, hating that she felt like a little kid tagging along behind someone. "Is something wrong...?" The mare knew what the answer would be, but was hoping to find out just what was going on.

Gan Ning's pace slowed enough that she could catch up, his face not changing as he turned to her. "Trouble. Not sure what kind, but I'm certain we don't want to be here by morning. Call it Danger Sense or whatever, I just know that those other guys are doing something that we may end up being blamed for if we stick around. I'm gonna ask the Cap that we set sail now. There's no wind, but that's where I come in." He grinned at her, before he started heading below for the quarters. "Don't worry, I'll make sure you get a good night's sleep." Jumping down the steps with a forward somersault, he rolled to a stop just at Tiger's door.
He knocked loudly, hoping to get his attention. "Captain! We got ourselves a HUGE problem on our hooves!"

[[hmmm... we'll say the rest of the crew drank the ale and that Tiger lost the bet and is now sleeping his head empty of ale. I hope that's all right with the rest of the crew. I'm somehow assuming Bridie and Cutter might have hooked up together at Bridie's quarters or something, but that's up to you two.]] Tiger snored. He heard not the knock nor the shout. He did turn around and mutter something incomprehensible, but he didn't wake up. [[so I guess he'll have to knock louder. The real problem is we can't leave until the other pirates have stolen the locket and Kail has come asking for our help. So we got to figure out a way to keep these guys in port until the morning.]]

((Sorry again for falling behind.. If you see me doing it again, someone PLEASE give me a kick in the tush )) "Captain! We got ourselves a HUGE problem on our hooves!"While the yell from Gan Ning may not have woken Tiger, it did rouse the light-sleeping Cutter from his slumber. "Gan'ing!" He said in a tired, husky tone, "What's with the makin' like a bloody banshee?" The scarlet stallion asked, yawning and momentarily showing his gold teeth. "SOME ponies like to sleep a' this hour!" While he jested on the outside, he did have concern for the alarm. Cutter had been mindful as he could of his temper, and had worked especially hard not to take it out on ponies such as Tiger and Gan Ning. If this was a prank, however...

Tiger tossed around on his bed, muttering something about rotten supplies and then continued snoring.

Bridie turned over in her bed then fell with a THUMP to the floor.
"God*mnit Gan, I NEED my beauty sleep and you KNOW that!"
She crawled back into bed.

Gan Ning shook his head. "This isn't a prank, Cutter. I haven't heard anything from that other ship for a while now, and I can hear a bit of a ruckus going on at the castle; Water has ears and all. I think their up to something we might be blamed for. Sadly, without Tiger awake, I can't ask for us to shove off."
He met the burly beefcake of a stallion's eyes, his own filled with the experience of being blamed for someone else's wrongs. "And I highly doubt their doing something less than a hanging's worth. And as you know, a rope around my neck isn't my idea of a good thing." Looking away, he seemed to be pondering if he should go scouting; After all, it was hard to kill someone that could liquefy himself at will.
"I got a real bad feeling, Cutter; And we both know I've yet to be wrong about a bad hunch. You think we should wait till daybreak for them to make their move?"

The red stallion's expression quickly became more alert, and a frown crossed his brow. Had he been too busy watching the newest crewmember to notice these things himself? Gan Ning had the sharper senses anyway, as well as the advantage of hydrokenisis.. and Cutter wasn't one to challenge or judge him in that respect.
Cutter inwardly tensed at the idea of being blamed once again for a wrong not suitable of punishment. Why, that was the reason he had joined this crew in the first place. Somehow, for some reason, mudering dangerous thieves had warranted him a death sentence all those years ago.
The stallion glanced upward from below deck, as if the stars and lingering clouds could tell him what to do. His gold earring reflected the moonlight as he brought his emerald-eyed gaze back to Gan Ning.
"I got a real bad feeling, Cutter; And we both know I've yet to be wrong about a bad hunch. You think we should wait till daybreak for them to make their move?"
"I think.." Cutter said slowly, in his low voice, "I think that Tiger'd want us t'be a step ahead, to be ready for what might be comin'." The heavy stallion shifted his weight, careful not to let his large hooves make too loud a noise. "If we wait till mornin', we might be caught unawares." He paused a moment, then continued, "You're the stealthy one.. If ye want t'take a look 'round the castle, I'll stand watch above deck and wait up for ye."
((this could be a good way for us to stay in port until we're hired, hehe.))

[[yeah, I think so too. Also, Tiger will be still very drunk if you manage to wake him up, so I'm sure he'll cause a scene and refuse to go anywhere if any of you wants to wake him up. ]] Tiger snored.

Bridie rolled over in her bed. "Load the cannons!" She muttered in her sleep.

When Gan Ning started down the steps, Quicksand stayed put, looking a bit puzzled. However, she heard what he was calling to the captain, and later what he was saying to Cutter. She soon found herself leaning in the direction of the voices. Well, theyr'e probably going to talk about more when I'm not around - and they can't see me... The mare felt guilty as she stood around the corner listening to every word now, but really - she would only be interrupting, and then she'd never hear the end of this... ((Poor thing doesn't seem to realize that they'll come around the corner eventually, and since she's basically not sneaky at all it'll be all too obvious that she was eavesdropping. ))

Gan Ning nodded in responce to Cutter's statements. "Alright. If those guys return before I do, throw one of my pearls into the water. I'll haul my butt back here ASAP the moment it hits the sea bed." The good thing about being in tune with water, again, was you could use it as a cumunication system if you knew how. Walking around the corner, he just calmly nodded to Quicksand. "I'm certain you heard us talking; Don't worry your head off. If anything happens to me, Cutter and the Cap will take real good care of you and help finish your training."
He tilted her face up a little so she could see right into his eyes. "But I promise you, on my word as a pirate, I'll be back. And my word is my bond." Running up the deck, he jumped into the sea, his body turning into fluid as he did so; From there, he sliped into one of the out going water pipes from the castle. He'd find out just what they were up to, or his name wasn't Gan Ning of the Bells!
((I find this a good way to get the crew to learn of the theft itself, since it will also have them debate long enough to have Kail ask for their help. On that note, cont. at the barge in!))

Bridie finally heaved herself out of bed, grumpily. She had woken up again and couldn't fall back asleep. She fixed herself up and came up onto the main deck. To her delight, she found Cutter alone.
"Cutter..." She purred, slowly walking rhythmically towards him.

"Cutter..."
The red stallion flicked an ear back at the sound of his name. And what more beautiful lips for it to have been spoken by other than that of Bridie.
Not wishing to give her the satisfaction of the kind of attention she drew from him, Cutter remained facing foward, looking over the edge of the ship toward the castle where Gan Ning had stealthily gone to spy.
Sitting on the wooden deck, the large pony could easily rest his chin on the railing, concealing most of his body against any onlookers. He wondered briefly why Tiger didn't assign night watchers.. maybe he was confident in those who slept lightly, like Cutter himself, or that no one would dare steal from pirates. Even 'good' ones.
A mischievous glint sparked in the corner of Cutter's eye as he raised his head, stretched slightly, and responded, "Evenin', Bridie-Lee.."
