"I see"
Although Kail had taken precautions towards the tone she had used, the underlying meaning of the words didn't go unnoticed by the thief. And the sting was not unlike when Foxy had discovered her lifestyle so many years ago.
Simply, it stunned Coon badly, and she remained still a little longer as the others went by. So caught up in this reopened wound, she had completely disregarded any indication of Jewel's plight (and any potential flirting options to coincide with it).
"Well, that makes eight bags of gold I guess, I hope the Queen wont be upset."
It took a moment before Kail's other words sunk in. Now Coon was usually a patient, charming flirt of a pony. She could survive being arrested. And she could take a little stab now and then emotionally. But that had been an insult to her code of conduct, to her way of life.
Angrily she huffed up to Kail's side, ears pressed flatly to her neck. This sudden aggression would never be used to hurt Kail physically by any means, not that it mattered much with her healing ability, but Coon did want to get a point across.
"Look here.," Coon stated flatly, "I would've come regardless of payment. Why?"
She neglected to wait for Kail to respond.
"I take this seriously. It's the thrill of the game. If you can't enjoy it for simply the accomplishment of doing it, then why bother at all?"
With that, she stormed forward ahead of Kail. It wasn't the first time she'd been in Dream Valley, and she knew her way.

Hollow was not convinced by Jewel's answer, nor was he satisfied. He was certain she was hiding something from her. Her tone and her avoiding gaze, along with pure simple instinct from Hollow's part told him that she was not being completely honest with him.
He also saw that she did not want to elaborate further. The options ran through Hollow's mind quickly, and finally he nodded. There was little to be accomplished by pestering the Indigo. He might as well wait.
"It'll probably.. come back."
"I do hope so," he answered her calmly, meeting her eyes with the most meaningful look in them - a look that said I know you're not telling everything. Aloud, he only added: "Losing any potentially important visions is, after all, dangerous. Not only to us but to the ones we fight for."
He left it at that as he turned his eyes forward again. He considered he had said enough, to make sure Jewel remembered that her visions were not only given to her for her sake, but so that she might help others and serve the Rainbow.
Coon's behaviour raised Hollow's interest as well. He was still in the process of trying to figure the thief out. His - her? - outburst made the dark corn stallion re-evaluate Coon's intentions and motivations. Perhaps, after all, not quite everyone were greedy. Even if that was a strange thought of a thief.

Kail stopped for a moment, wondering what had upset Coon, and then realized that of course none of them would understand what she had said. They weren't there when she made the bargain. Catching up with the stallion quickly, Kail bowed her head somewhat sheepishly.
"That's not what I meant, Coonskin. I don't doubt that you are here because you want to be. There is no point in hiring ponies to do a job like this anyways, it wouldn't get done right if that were the case. But the ship we are taking is not exactally the highest in reputation and the captain demands a bag of gold for each passenger, to be paid upon arrival back in Dream Valley." She spoke softly so the others could not hear, except maybe Razz who could hear with his mind. "None of us is getting paid to do this. We do it because we are the only ones who can and who will. If you are here to help us then we will be forever indebted to you in means much more precious than gold and jewels." She turned her head to look in Coon's eyes. "How you came to this point is not important anymore."

"Losing any potentially important visions is, after all, dangerous. Not only to us but to the ones we fight for."
"Believe me, Hollow, I understand," The pegasus looked focused ahead. Her voice was civil and collected, "If I had anything I thought would be of value to discuss, I would bring it to everyone's attention." Jewel then turned to look at him, with an expression which showed she had no desire for animosity or even the slightest of ill feelings between them, "Ok?"
Besides, it was not so much a vision she had seen as the feeling she had gotten. And it wasn't something accurately described in words.
Jewel did have something to share with the other champions though, and made a mental note to rally a meeting once everyone settled into the ship.

Roxanne trit-trotted along, one ear cocked to halfheartedly listen in on the others' conversations, but mostly she was just pleased to be out in fresh air someplace new. She felt collected, and ready to face whatever craziness lay ahead. And things would get crazy, that was for sure...

Hollow looked at her with a slight smile. He, too, wished no ill feeling, and was happy to hear that Jewel was aware of her duties. He tossed his tail about a bit and bowed his head shortly.
"As you say," he answered calmly. He raised one corner of his mouth into a half-smile. "I do apologise if I might have sounded rude. I am merely... concerned with our mission."
That was all he would say. In many ways, he would have wanted to establish a better connection with these ponies that he would now spend much time with, but Hollow was not an outgoing person. He wasn't sure how to approach them. And then again, some part of him didn't even want to. Some great part of him just wanted to think "let's get the job done and then we can just separate again". And he was torn between these two desires, not knowing which to follow.

"How you came to this point is not important anymore."
Coon's golden eyes slowly trailed to their corners, eyeing Kail silently as she talked, treading forward. Her ears slightly turned up at that, and on some level, the thief felt rather relieved.
Not many were so forgiving as to her occupation, but Coon knew that given the circumstance, Kail had little choice. Everyone had little choice; all seven champions would have to put their faith in her. She was stealing the Rainbow of Light! A daunting and no where easy task. She would have to be at the top of her game to manage this.
Coon sighed, finally turning her head to look Kail straight forward.
"Sorry, it's just...," Coon mumbled uncharacteristically, "This place, Dream Valley. Too many skeletons in my closet. It'll be better when we get out on the ship."
The last had been said with some confidence, at least, for this Coon was sure on.

Jewel relaxed noticibly as Hollow eased up on her a bit. She didn't like feeling the slightest bit talked down to, or interrogated, especially by a teammate. However, she did realize his good intentions, and thus respected his questioning. It reminded her though, that she was in good company. The Rainbow had made wise choices, and the thought of companionship put her in better spirits.
"I do apologise if I might have sounded rude. I am merely... concerned with our mission."
"Are you sure you weren't just given the Serious Stripe?" The pegasus frowned teasingly, then broke into a smile. She then looked away from Hollow, smiling to herself. "Our mission IS serious, but don't forget to smile sometime."
She said that last part with a certain amount of sincerity, sure to make eye contact with the stallion. Nothing else upon her face gave way to the thoughts at that moment.

Roxanne trotted sideways, feeling lighthearted enough to barge in on others' discussions.
"I made 'im smile!" She waggled her eyebrows at Jewel. "What's cooking, cats? You psyched?"

"Are you sure you weren't just given the Serious Stripe?"
Hollow Heart wrinkled his nose a little, though he wasn't particularly annoyed by her words.
"Our mission IS serious, but don't forget to smile sometime."
She said that last part with a certain amount of sincerity, sure to make eye contact with the stallion.
He had to smile to her, just a little. He seemed to be getting a lot of that sort of comments that day.
"I made 'im smile!" She waggled her eyebrows at Jewel. "What's cooking, cats? You psyched?"
Hollow looked rather sheepish at that, and flattened his ears as a sign of embarrassment. He shook his mane as though shrugging it off. He answered nothing to either mare.

Kail smiled warmly, "there are skeletons here for me too." She had been so excited to see Razz, to get going, that she hadn't really bothered to realize that she was leaving home and she wouldn't be back for a long time. And that was only if they were successful. If they didn't get the Rainbow back.... well who wanted to think of that?
Looking straight ahead they came over a hilltop and found the harbor right below them, full of lofty ships that boasted huge crews and faster speeds than you could imagine a ship of their size could go through the water. And at the far end of the dock was the much smaller wooden ship that they would be taking, powered by the wind and not engines.
"There we are," Kail pointed with a self-concious grin - she knew it didn't look like much. "The only crew willing to take a bunch of rogue ponies on a wild goose chase across the ocean after Ponylands greatest treasure." She turned around to look at everyone with a grin and said sarcastically, "what great big hearts they have."
A little laugh and she started off down the hill towards the ship.

"I made 'im smile!"
Jewel smiled briefly to Roxy, not exactly sure how to take her comment. Charisma expressed itself well though, and the peg didn't ponder over it for long. It did seem though that Roxy was enjoying a bit of a friendly game with Hollow, and Jewel decided then that it was probably best not to be pushy, or to intrude.
"What's cooking, cats? You psyched?"
The pegasus looked at the other golden mare with a shadow in her eyes. She covered it quickly with a forced smile, before calmly trotting ahead of the pair.

Hollow looked sharply toward the ship Kail was pointing at as she spoke. His ears pricked, his tail high and his neck arched, he paused for a moment atop the hill, slightly incredulous at the vehicle she had chosen for them. But at the explanation he blew air out of his nostrils with a blasting sound, shook his mane irritably and started off after her. Pirates. He was certain of it.
Unconsciously he positioned himself close to the Indigo Stripe as they proceeded down towards the ship. Somehow, at the back of his mind, he figured she was the most vulnerable of them all - being that she was prone to visions, which might hinder her reactions at a dangerous situation. And Hollow did not feel that pirates were especially safe companions for this journey.

Roxanne sighed, and briefly wondered why she couldn't get through to some ponies... but then the Champions crested the hill and the sight of the docks put social issues out of her mind.
Wow... this is really happening.
She sobered up and followed Kail.

WOW! was all Razz said, or thought, as he took one look at the ship and dashed off to check it out.
