Rain smiled when she recognised the green pegasus's form beside her. "I'm afraid... I'm afraid... I'm not quite well," she said faintly, hoping the other two would guide her back to the ship. [[I'm good to jump either to the other thread or to a new thread anytime. ]]

The gold pegasus was struggling to fly steadily with all the missing feathers to her left wing, and was not in the best of moods after the recent escapade.
But we can't slow down, she told herself inwardly, For one, we need to make it back and not be stranded somewhere in between. And second, she glanced back momentarily, and in doing so fell a few feet before catching her balance again, we don't know if there are any pegasi pirates on that ship. We may be caught again after all.
"I'm afraid... I'm afraid... I'm not quite well,"
Jewel looked over at Rain, who seemed reminiscent of a dandelion blossom blowing in the wind. The little flutter didn't look so well indeed.
"Kail, can you help her?" Jewel asked her friend, already breathing a bit laboriously from her flying efforts, "Or heal her.. or anything?" then muttered quietly, "Or were.. you given the crazy stripe.. instead of the healing one.. after all?"

Kail frowned at Jewel's remark, biting her tongue so she wouldn't snap back a reply about Jewel being the crazy one to come after her. "I can try," she said instead, very stifly, "but it will be hard mid-flight."
Turning to the Princess she thought for a moment. "Can you swim?"

Rain was still quite hazy in the head, but she did have enough of brains to realise that there might be a fight brewing. She sighed inwardly. Oh dear. She hoped it was in no way her fault.
Kail's question made her look rather miserable.
"With this shoulder?" She looked at her shoulder. "Float, at best. But the ship is coming right at us, isn't it?" She swallowed, trying to focus on the thought that kept eluding her. "We... we won't have to fly very far, will we?"
[[...well they'll collide with the ship eventually even if they just stay still, yes?]]

"I can try," she said instead, very stifly, "but it will be hard mid-flight."
Jewel's mind urged her to say something like "Do it anyway," but she could easily tell that Kail was in no brilliant state either, and that such a frustrated comment would do no one any good now.
Instead, the pegasus gently nudged Rain's flank, "Rain, fly diagonally behind Kail.. like birds do.. in formation.. the air flow.. will help you fly."
Taking her own advice, and eager to fly less erratically, Jewel assumed a position on Kail's right, so that the air current might help carry her damaged wing.

Rain nodded wearily and assumed position somewhere behind Kail. She had never imagined any flight could take so long, or she could ever wish for flying to end. But the pain on her shoulder sheered her entire body every time she flapped her wings, and it was all she could do to stop from crying.

"Float is all you need to do," Kail said behind her shoulder as the two of them took up on either side. "If you can float still I might be able to help a little."
She looked back to see what Rain's answer would be and if she would start down towards the water.

Rain hesitated a little and looked down at the cold, dark water. It was like a black velvet land below them, except that it moved. Rain had always loved the sea, but right at that moment it seemed very frightening. She swallowed, but then caught her courage.
"All right," she said and folded her wings a little to start her descend toward the sea. Surprisingly gracefully she landed into the water and then proceeded to float as best she could, closing her eyes for good measure.

Jewel watched to see that Rain landed safely, and trusted fully that Kail would take charge from there.
"I'm going a bit higher up, where the air is steadier," The gold pegasus called to the other, then did her best to climb up a short distance further into the sky.
Jewel squinted her purple eyes as she wavered on a breeze, and tried to stretch her neck forward. There, in the distance, was a tiny faint glow. Too yellow to be a star, and to close to the water as well.
"Kail!" She called down, and dropped in elevation a short way, "I think I see the boat--maybe another mile or two!"

Kail swooped down behind Rain and tread water with her legs as she wrapped her wings around the princess lightly. The lull of the waves helped ease the peg's mind and she quietly began humming the dolphin's song. Warm green light enveloped them both and was not interupted until Jewel called down from above.
Kail stopped humming and looked up. Only a mile or two? She was sure they could make it that far in their current condition.
"Up again, Princess, I'll finish when we reach the boat," she said softly and waited for the other to take flight first so the peg could keep an eye on her.

Rain felt the pleasant warmth of healing surround her, penetrate her, and tingle in the wound, easing the pain. She breathed calmly, letting the waves lull her.
When Kail called her, she looked up and nearly fell under water before she remembered to start kicking the water with her hooves. She nodded and fluttered her wings, rising from the water, having made sure her wings didn't get too wet. Flying hurt still, but Kail's healing touch was working miracles on her nevertheless, and soon she was circling up, higher, toward the dark night sky. She could see the lantern too when they got high enough, and smiled. She glanced at Jewel.
"Looks like your boyfriend's keeping his promise!" she called out happily - totally unaware of the true situation between Jewel and Hollow. "Let's reach for the light!"

"Looks like your boyfriend's keeping his promise!"
At Rain's words, Jewel faltered slightly and fell a short way before she was again near enough to Rain to speak to her.
"I think.. Princess.. you're mistaken," She said, growing very tired, with unmistakeable burning in her muscles, "My beau.. is home.. in Ponyville."
Worn and injured though the trio was, Hollow's beacon remained a ray of hope, a goal before them, and it grew nearer every second.

Rain fluttered her eyelashes in surprise at what Jewel told her, then raised a brow and glanced at Jewel from the corner of her eye, then back out across to the lantern. A lopsided smile spread over her face - on the opposite side from where Jewel was flying.
"Oh," she said in her most nonchalant voice. "My mistake, then."
But she was by no means done with this topic. She was certain she had not misread the expression on Hollow's face.

Kail waited a moment to join the two ponies flying high above. As she sat bobbing up and down in the waves she felt the gentle caress of a silky fin across her hoof and smiled down into the water. The dolphin's song wasn't only good for healing others, it was good for calling someone to heal you as well, and after the exertion of the past hour or so she could use the familiar warmth of her second family.
"Thank you," she breathed to the water and then, with a gentle push from a strong body below, lifted up into the air above the waves and made her way back to the other two heading for the boat.
(We can go to a new thread now if you like, everyone's healed and whatnot)
