Wolfbadger was standing alone in the still woods, looking down from the mountains and into the valley. The castle was dressed in lights as it was at this time each year. He had hoped Atarluna would join him, but it seemed her confidence had finally outgrown him.
He sighed. She had her mother in her and with each day she took on more and more of her grace. He had lost his mate, Indira, many years ago, when Atarluna was just a foal. Now it was almost like losing her again as his daughter's headstrong will drove her farther and farther away from him.
"Ah, what would you do, love?" he asked the wind. It blew around him, gently tugging at his wing feathers.
