Outside the castle, Aellesar walked.

[silverfall]

"I'm sorry, old friend," Aellesar said to the white bird on his shoulder (assuming he was still clinging there). "I've too many memories of that place. I dare not encounter any old ghosts during my stay. Too much is at stake."

[[Aellesar will be picking up Sil's daughter and making the jump back to Ponyville.]]

[[Now, I just have to figure out how to do that.]]

Aellesar came to a halt near the edge of the woods and the road leading to the cottages. There was a mare walking up the road. She was dark, with wings like an eagle, and a solid horn on her brow.

Aellesar drew up a hiss.

"Foolish have I been," he whispered.

The mare took notice of him then, as he stared, and her gait slowed as she became suddenly cautious. When she was but a few feet from him, she stopped.

"What?" she said. "What are you looking at?"

Aellesar said nothing. A dark swirl was pulling up like mist from the ground around his feet. It extended toward the mare.

"What are you doing?" she asked.

The mist continued to curl around her legs. It was becoming substance, restraining her.

"Stop it!" she yelled.

The darkness rose up over them, until they were gone.

The bird nodded his head solemnly. "I understand and wish you no ill will." He thought to the great black stallion. "Anyway, I cared little for the castle; high stone walls were never in my favour..."

Seer looked in the mare's way. "So she is the one..."

He felt the dark mist surround them and come for her, but he remained where he was and allowed the darkness to take him with them.
