It had been hours and hours and hours. Sunlight was beginning to worry. He had promised to be back by sunset, for dinner, which was now cooling already. She tried keeping it in the oven so that it might remain hot longer, but she coulndn't do that forever before it would burn.
Sunlight was always anxious about his son if Moonstone was away for too long, but she couldn't help it. Moonstone was the only thing in her life at the moment, and she couldn't bear to think he might leave her someday. Which was why she was dead afraid of him to meet a mare he liked.
Still, tonight Sunlight thought of no mares or nothing of the kind as she waited for Moonstone to return to her. Popping inside and out of the cottage door she anxiously looked away into the darkening night, expecting to see him at any moment. And finally she left the door entirely and walked a few steps away from her cottage, peering into the darkness.
[[uggh a bit lame but it'll have to do.]]

((Cont. from "Camping".))
Posey let out at soft sigh of relief at the friendly sight of a light ahead. She didn't want to be a burden to anyone, but the mare thought she could at least ask the quickest way home - and at this hour, a short chat would be nice.
When she saw an older mare already out in front of the house, she was glad to think that it wouldn't be nearly as much bother now. She tried to make her soft voice heard as she walked closer. "Ma'am? I don't want to be any trouble, but I usually don't wander so far from home too close to sundown, and I can't recognise much of this area. It would be very helpful if you could tell me just where I am." ((I figure her cottage is on another end of the neighborhood.))
The mare seemed vaguely familiar - as was expected of most ponies in the area, considering how close ponies in the Valley had once been. Of course, she had only really gotten to know a handful of ponies her age, and hadn't exactly met anyone new after she went off to live alone, but the thought all the same made her smile slightly as the smell of a home-cooked dinner wafted out of the cottage.

Sunlight was, despite herself, startled at Posey's apperance from the shadows. She at first imagined the light-coloured pony appearing would be her son, but when she saw the yellow tone of her body and heard her feminine voice, she sighed, quite disappointed. She was always friendly, however, and would not have dreamed of turning Posey away from her door.
"Oh, of course," she answered to Posey, smiling to her, even if her other ear was still turned to another direction, trying to listen for sounds of Moonstone. She examined her with her eyes for a while. "Hmmm... you seem vaguely familiar, my dear," she said then, frowning a bit. "I'm sure we've met before, but I cannot quite place you." She wasn't sure how to explain to her just where she was.
Around the cottage spread out a rather wonderful garden, which Sunlight always tended to herself, and it recalled to her something she had seen a long time ago. Her face cleared off a little.
"Oh!" she said then. "Are you by any chance the owner of that lovely garden at the other end of the neighbourhood? I think I have seen you in the middle of flowers once. I quite admired that garden. I could never have as wonderful set of flowers myself - I concentrate on vegetables too much."

Posey blushed at Sunlight's comment on her garden. "Ah, yes, you-you're probably thinking of mine. I do have quite a few flowers, and I spend a lot of time trying to keep them happy." All of my time, really.
"I don't have nearly as many vegetables, but of course I feel that all plants deserve care and attention. Oh - and if you'd like, I would be glad to replant a few of my flowers here for you." She hardly ever suggested parting with any of her precious plants, but what she could see of this mare's garden seemed healthy and well-cared for. Besides, she's being so nice - it's really the least I could do.
Suddenly Posey realized that there seemed to be dinner waiting inside, but here this kind old mare was, out in the dark talking to her. "Oh, I'm sorry - am I keeping you from your meal? Or are you expecting company? I'm sure I could just as easily try to find my own way home - I do, after all, seem to be in the right neighborhood..." She started to look over her shoulder, considering how far she might have had to go.

Sunlight's face brightened at Posey's suggestion of giving her flowers. She was just about to say she'd be happy to take a few, when Posey continued about the dinner. Sunlight's face dropped a bit and she glanced back towards the cottage, an anxious look on her face.
"Yes..." she murmured, "I do expect... Oh, but don't be silly." She looked at Posey again, a little smile coming over her face. "Do join me for dinner. It would be a shame if it got cold. I'm only waiting for my son, you see. He was supposed to be back by sunset, but he hasn't come yet. I'm a little worried, though of course he'd tell me not to be. He's all grown up and all that... but a mother can't help but worry, now can she? Still, I'd be happy to have some company for the evening, while I wait."
She walked to the door and held it open for Posey in an inviting sort of way.

Posey walked over to the door, but before she stepped inside the mare paused and said, "Why I would be glad to keep you company, but I'd hate to impose. So just as soon as your son arrives I should probably go."
The mare really didn't want to be a bother, but her offer to leave was more out of discomfort at the concept of talking to a stallion. She tried to get off her property on occasion, but didn't talk much to other mares, and felt even less social around the males of her species. She would much rather avoid an awkward situation. Perhaps I can slip off just before he arrives...

Sunlight's face dropped a little as Posey said she would go as soon as her son arrived. Only when she got company at her cottage she remembered just how much she missed having friends to talk to. She was not exactly lonely - she met Cascade regularly and she was in familiar terms with some other mares, but she rarely met anyone who might have shared her enthusiasm for gardening and nature.
"Oh, that won't be necessary," she said as she walked in first, throwing only one concerned look behind her, to see if she might catch the familiar twinkle that meant her son had returned. Then she smiled to Posey again and nodded her to follow at the table - set out beautifully and consisting of only the best vegetarian foods. "Really, we do get so rare visitors nowadays. I used to have a lot of friends when I was younger, but then there was Moonstone, and now I seem to have lost touch with most of them. Come, sit, have some food. It is all vegetarian, you know. I never eat meat, and neither does my son. It is so very unnatural, you understand."
She was prattling on as she went to fetch a third set of dishes - she was determined to see her stay.

Posey felt a bit trapped at this point. Earlier she had felt guilty staying, but somehow in the conversation Sunlight had managed to make her feel guilty at the thought of leaving. She gave up and walked over to the table, still waiting for the other mare to sit before she did.
The mare listened to Sunlight continue to talk as she got another place setting, feeling more peaceful but still uneasy until the son arrived. Of course, with a mother like this he was probably perfectly nice, but then again it seemed rather easy to become spoiled, growing up in an atmosphere such as this...
As she tried to decide which to expect, Posey looked at the vegatarian food on the table. In response to Sunlight's remark on the family's eating habits, she said, "It is an incredibly healthy thing - being vegetarians. I don't venture out for groceries much myself, and I find plants much more trustworthy than some strange creature I don't know. Fruits and vegetables are so much better at keeping themselves healthy, after all." She stopped a bit suddenly, realizing that she was beginning to babble herself.

Sunlight had to smile to Posey's words as she set the table and then went to her own place, at the opposite side of the long end of the table. She was very particular about traditions, and she felt it was the place of the stallion of the house to sit at the head of the table. Hence, she motioned Posey to the chair on the opposite side of her as she took a seat.
"Yes," she nodded, "fruits and vegetables are far more healthy. They are the reason why I still look so young." She giggled a little and tossed one rainbow lock behind her back. Of course she knew she was not as blooming as she had been once upon a time, but she was rather better looking than one might have expected from a mare her age. "I must say I do not condone any of that meat-eating business. It is downright unnatural for a pony. Why, if the Rainbow had intended for us to eat meat, it would have given us predator's teeth, would it not? Do eat, Posey dear, the food is getting cold. There's some cabbage stew right there, and I have carrot cake for dessert."
It was at that very moment that, through the door Sunlight had left open, a sudden glimmer and shimmer entered the room. It began as a soft mist-like glow, and then became more and more solid, until it was in the form of a unicorn. Moonstone's pale blue body appeared right next to the dinner table, his rainbow mane shimmering for a while longer than the rest of the body. He sported an apologetic smile on his lips, but as soon as his eyes met Posey, his expression became confused instead, and he blinked.
"Ehh..." was the only thing he had time for when Sunlight's face broke out into a delighted, relieved smile.
"Oh, Moonstone!" she cried, clapping her forehooves together. "Thank the Rainbow you're all right! Where have you been?"
Moonstone smiled a bit sheepishly to his mother.
"I... I was practicing, mother, and I forgot the time. I am sorry." He looked at Posey again, curious of the mare, even if also a little suspicious. "I... I don't believe we have had the pleasure," he said to the mare meaningfully.
"Oh!" Sunlight said before Posey had the time to reply. "Yes, of course. Posey, dear, this is my son, Moonstone. And Moonstone, this is Posey, a new friend. She owns that wonderful garden right at the other edge of the neighbourhood. Do you know, the one with the beautiful roses and the rest."

Posey sat down in the chair indicated by Sunlight, and had just reached forward to serve herself when she found a stallion standing next to the table. The mare jumped a little and her eyes widened before she noticed that he was a unicorn, and understood how he'd arrived so quickly without her noticing. She didn't understand how even the unicorns could get used to that particular power, and yet they always seemed to be winking all over the place.
"I... I don't believe we have had the pleasure."
Before Posey could introduce herself she found that Sunlight already had, and she blushed slightly at the continued compliments about her garden. "It is...very nice to meet you, Moonstone", she said quietly when the older mare had finished. "I was a bit lost, and your mother has invited me to dinner. I do hope you don't mind..."

Moonstone evaluated Posey as she spoke. Well, the yellow mare appeared like she was just as kind as she appeared. She seemed even a little shy. Moonstone regretted suspecting her at once. What had made him so suspicious these days?
"No, not at all," he said, breaking into a friendly smile as he stepped closer to the table. "We do get so rarely any visitors at all. I do seem to recall the garden. There was a large yellow rose bush there somewhere, was there not? Yellow roses are rare, I believe."

Posey stared down and said, still in a soft tone that made it somewhat difficult to hear, "Yes, they are considered quite rare in the area. But there are some parts in the Valley where I've planted them, and they seem to be doing alright." Feeling the need to elaborate, the mare added, "I sometimes like to replant my flowers in the wild. It is, after all, where they belong. Of course, I look for the places that aren't visited much - nice, quiet places. I wouldn't want anyone to disturb them."
In fact, Posey's taste when choosing new homes for her flowers much resembled her taste in housing for herself.

Moonstone smiled as Posey explained her habit of replanting flowers. The last strands of his suspicion faded. This mare could not possibly be dangerous in any way. He chose not to interfere with possible developin friendship between Posey and his mother. He rather believed she might do good for Sunlight.
"Oh, that sounds such a wonderful thing to do," Sunlight said at that point, looking at Posey with sparkling eyes. "I would be quite honoured if you wanted to give me some of your flowers to look after."
Moonstone was taking a seat at the table at this point. He smiled just a little to Posey.
"I like quiet as well," he said with a calm, gentle voice, speaking mostly his thoughts out, rather than to specifically give out information. He reached out to take some food onto his plate from the several bowls and plates on the table. "Sometimes I go to the garden or to some other such place and watch the plants as I meditate. Their presence can be very... soothing."

Posey smiled a bit at Moonstone before she stared down at her hooves. He seemed like a nice, peaceful stallion, but she wished she wasn't sitting next to him.
The mare felt a need to say something in return, but was looking more at Sunlight as she said it, and was clearly speaking more to the other mare. "Maybe you could help Sunlight and I in the garden then, when I bring some flowers over."
((Short, yes. And sorry I haven't been on. Lots of english and math homework.))

[[no prob. Can relate. *grimace*]]
Moonstone smiled, delighted of her suggestion. He looked at her and smiled.
"I would love to," he said eagerly.
Sunlight's eyes were darting from Moonstone to Posey, and back again, and a soft smile came over her lips. She had always hoped for her son to marry, though she dreaded the day when he would leave her, but she had never before come to think that it all depended so greatly on with whom he would marry. Posey was calm and quiet and shy and gentle. And she, too, loved flowers and plants. She would do good for Moonstone.
A plan was forming in the aqua mare's mind.
"Certainly," she said eagerly. "You two could move the flowers while I prepare the place for them in my garden. Surely you could use some help in carrying them, Posey?"
