Tiger paced up and down the deck. He had measured the upper deck already some ten times or so, but he just couldn't stop.
Clop-clop-clop-clop-clop. Turn. Clop-clop-clop...
He stopped in his tracks as a sudden movement of a flying pony caught his eye at the docks. His ears were pricked as he looked at the pegasus anxiously - only to notice it was not the green one he was expecting to see. He shook his mane irritably and started himself up along the deck again.
Clop-clop-clop-clop-clop. Turn. Clop-clop-clop...
Tiger was nervous. It was only now beginning to dawn on him just where he was putting his nose into. And not only his, but also his crew. Had he done wisely? He blew air out of his nostrils while continuing to walk along the deck. The pegasus with her "Champions" had better arrive quickly. He was beginning to give some thought to leaving the gold bags behind and setting sail and leaving these Rainbow-whatevers to deal with their problems alone. He didn't like meddling with things he didn't understand, and this was certainly something he didn't understand at all.

Cutter was standing nearby, eyes squinting toward the balloon as it approached in the distance. He remained quiet and stoic, as if at peace. The sporadic restlessness of his legs was all that might give away his apprehension and excitement. For the most part, he was in a reflective, thoughtful mood.
A scarlet ear adorned with a single gold earring swiveled toward the methodic sound of Tiger's pacing. Cutter said nothing at first, still fixed on the distance. Moments passed this way, until the crimson stallion slowly approached his captain.
"Y'know, Cap'," Cutter said quietly, not seeming distressed in the least, "Ye've always got this crew at yer back.. we've handled worse before, and I don't reckon much could stop us now."
For whatever it was worth, those were Cutter's words of encouragement. He snorted a sigh and stamped his foot, almost in a way of making up for a brief display of kind words.

Tiger came to a full stop as Cutter spoke to him. He turned to look at the crimson stallion with a bit of a smile on his lips. In his own rough unspoken way, Cutter had always been his best friend.
"Aye," he said gruffly, his eyes fixed onto his second mate meaningfully. "I doubt much could stop you for that matter." He trotted over to him and gave him a resounding pat on the shoulder that was nearly a push - the way of the rough stallions to show friendship. Tiger had never in his life hugged anyone - well, if mares in bed were counted out - and he wasn't about to start now. He smiled gruffly.

"I doubt much could stop you for that matter."
Cutter's low voice responded in a gruff, masculine tone, "Ye reckon right, Cap." The scarlet stallion flashed a gold tooth, looking ready for the mission at hand.
"I wish these Champs'd hurry up an' get here already," The stallion said, huffing and blowing air through his nostrils. They'd been ready for days now, and Cutter was getting restless.

Tiger grinned with all the (surprising) whiteness of his teeth, feeling far better for Cutter's companionship. The hot-headed stallion was just his kind of a pirate. He was sure he had not seen many ponies in his life that could match his skill and strength in battle.
"I wish these Champs'd hurry up an' get here already," The stallion said, huffing and blowing air through his nostrils.
Tiger's face grew more serious, and a frown settled upon his brow again. He stomped a hoof to agree with his second mate.
"If they won't come soon, I tell you, we will leave the bags and move on. I'm getting suspicious."
Then again, Tiger was practically always suspicious.

A excited purple pony came clamboring up the gangplank, planted four feet on the deck as he came to a sudden stop, and whipped his head back and forth and up and down as he looked all around. There was an enormous, cheerful grin on his face.

Having felt putting to rest some of the anxiety and bitterness that arose between her and Kail, Coon took to trotting ahead of Kail and after Razz to the ship. And what a ship it was.
The thief had been on a ship like this perhaps once before in her life. However, she did spend sometime in her youth going to the docks to look at similar ships with her father. It was one of his favorite pastimes, something that Coon would do frequently if she wasn't on the move so much.
For a moment, the reason why she was there and even where she was slipped her thoughts, all of her attention focused on the boat appreciatively. This finally managed to pull her signature, flirty grin to her face as she stepped aboard comfortably.
Instantly, her golden eyes began to dart around, as if to see what was fair game, in items and ladies alike. Off handedly she saw a familiar face.
(ooc: Coon's been everywhere, technically, mostly to avoid cops. It would only seem likely that she may recognize someone who's also been to other places, or vice versa. Just out there for anyone who may want to be a past acquaintance of Coon.)

Quicksand ran on deck, pausing a moment before hurrying over to Tiger and Cutter as soon as she saw them. "Are they here already?"
Answering her own question, the mare quickly glanced around to see Razz and Coon, then turned back to the stallions and said with a hint of disappointment, "They came and I missed it? How long have they been here? How many more are coming, exactly?"
The unicorn didn't bother to specify that she was talking about the Champions, but it had after all been the only thing on her mind recently. She knew she was sounding like a curious little filly, but she had been nothing but nervous, waiting for what she was sure would be a grand adventure to start.

Kail's heart nearly stopped as Razz ran onto the ship. Great Rainbow he was apt to get himself killed doing that! She flew to the deck of the ship, not even bothering with the gangplank, and got her "I'm all buisness and if you try to flirt with me again I will probably cut you" face back on. A quick look around and she found the Captian.
"Hello again sir, seven Champions as I said, and one extra." She didn't want to admit they needed the help of an expert theif, so she left it at that. "Soon as they all board we will be ready to chase after the other ship. Assuming you haven't forgotten our agreement." She looked at him pointedly, almost challenging, and waited for the rest of the Champions to board.

Roxanne flared her nostrils at the sight of the ship, mixed emotions running through her. She was intimidated and out of her comfort zone, sure, but... what an experience this would be!
She trotted up the gangplank and stopped behind Coon, saying quietly:
"Great Gilbert and Sweet Sullivan, I feel like I'm in The Ponies of Penzance."

"They came and I missed it? How long have they been here? How many more are coming, exactly?"
Cutter raised an eyebrow at the excited mare. After a moment, he lowered his head to speak to her in a slightly teasing fashion, "If ye quit prattlin' an' open yer eyes, ye might see for yerself." The large stallion nodded subtly in the direction of the purple stallion who had so uncerimoniously boarded the ship.
As Kail approached Tiger, Cutter stayed slightly at a distance. He wasn't in any hurry for a merry meet-and-greet. He would take his fine time watching these newcomers, and acting in the crew's best interest. The crew HE belonged to, at least. And Rainbow help her Champions if one crossed Cutter in a bad mood.
Still on the ground, the golden peg lingered behind the rest, and fell to the back of the procession. She was in no hurry to leave the ground for a ship on water. Perhaps of any among them, Roux would be the one to know of her fear. Flying through storms, crossing mountains, tundra, even caves.. none phased Jewel as much as the sea.

Though Roux had hurried a bit, he had by no means kept up with the likes of Razz. He shook his head as he noticed Kail flying aboard right after Razz. Yes, the purple stallion would be lucky if he didn't get a tongue lashing at the very least.
He waited patiently; as best he could for the others to go up the gangplank. With one hoof on the rough wood he tilted his head up.
Raising his voice to be heard above whatever was going on on the deck he said, "Permission to come aboard."
He was a bit old school. The brown stallion couldn't help it. Though a gypsy through and through he believed that like knocking before entering someone's house, one should ask to board a ship instead of walking aboard as though they owned it.
Pirate, gypsy ... not much difference to most. Roux would most likely feel at home in this bunch. Something that he wondered if the others would.
Throwing a glance behind him, he noticed the golden pegasus hesitating. Offering Jewel a genuine smile, he wondered if maybe, just maybe this was too much for the rainbow to ask of her.
"It'll be all right." Roux stated softly, his voice reassuring, "The rainbow will keep you safe." His voice growing softer he added in, "Plus you've got me looking out for you."

[[gah! I'm away for one day and all this happens! *lol*]]
Tiger had just finished saying he would leave if the Champs wouldn't arrive soon, when a purple pony sauntered up along the gangplank, arriving into the ship as though he owned it. That made Tiger bristle and glare at the newcomer. He set one hoof on the sabre hilt - what did that stallion think this was, some pleasure yacht?
But right after the purple, others followed. Tiger was stopped by the very first one following the purple, however. The grey pony was... familiar. He blinked and frowned. What was this? Who was this? Who were all these ponies? Why was the grey pony with them?
Tiger didn't have much time for guessing when more ponies appeared. Kail landed onto the deck - a clear sign that the Champions had arrived. As she spoke, he frowned and trotted up closer to the railing, to peer down to the docks. A yellow earthling mare had followed behind the gray pony. Tiger saw another pegasus mare and a unicorn mare down on the docks. Along with a dark corn stallion and a red one, who then shouted up a request to get on board.
Awful lot of mares, was Tiger's first thought.
That's nice, was his second thought.
Where do I know that grey one from? was his third thought.
At least one champion has manners, was his fourth thought, as he heard Roux's call.
If he had a fifth thought, it was overshadowed by his need to respond to Kail. Suddenly, he was less interested in flirting with her, as his attention was drawn to the other mares, especially the yellow one right behind the grey pony. Ohh yes, this might be a good cruise after all. She was gorgeous! And the other two mares weren't bad either! Tiger had to be distracted a little before he managed to fully turn his attention to Kail.
"Soon as they all board we will be ready to chase after the other ship. Assuming you haven't forgotten our agreement."
That made Tiger bristle. If he was good for anything, it was for his word. He raised up his head, looking at her indignantly.
"Aye," he said pointedly, shaking his mane almost angrily. "Aye, I haven't forgotten." Then he grinned. "How could I forget the sweet sound of gold in my ears?"
He laughed, feeling suddenly more jovial at the thought of sharing a trip with all these lovely ladies and getting rich as well. Then he turned to peer down over the railing.
"Ahoy, mate!" he shouted down to Roux. "Permission granted!"
[[took you up on your offer, Rose - in case it's ok if Tiger knows Coon?]]
Hollow, who felt it somehow appropriate that he should remain close to Jewel and the orange stripe in case of danger, followed the pegasus close to the ship. His ears were flattened and he looked around rather suspiciously while he stopped also before the gangplank. He did not trust anyone, and least of all pirates. The pirate captain looked suspicious to him.
[[gah - that'll have to do for Hollow for now]]

Hearing an authoritative voice the brown stallion turned his head back towards the boat. Roux gave the Captain a quick nod in reply to being allowed aboard the ship. His way of saying 'thank you'. After all there was manners and than there was getting your belly sliced open. He was polite. As much as any gypsy. But he certainly didn't go overboard. There was a risk involved with being too polite. So Roux stuck to his own rules about it. The rules of a gypsy. Which lucky for him often seemed to be the same ones a pirate followed.
He took another step up the gangplank. Already his legs were making themselves ready for the sway of the wooden vessel. Roux threw another look back at Jewel. As much as he wanted to be on board right that very second, he didn't like the idea of leaving the golden pegasus standing there when she looked less than thrilled about having to set hoof on the boat.

"It'll be all right." Roux stated softly, his voice reassuring, "The rainbow will keep you safe."
Jewel looked at Roux with her best brave, sure face. Her body was still, her fears internalized at that point. But she didn't want anyone to think her afraid, or worse, limited by her fear. She nodded to the stallion, and stamped a restless rear leg. Plus, the rest of them didn't even know the worst yet to come.
"Plus you've got me looking out for you."
Only then did Jewel's expression soften, and a flicker of gratitude washed over her face. Not that she needed anyone to care for her, even Roux would know that much. It was the kindness from him that was best accepted. Softly and quietly, she replied, "Thank you, Roux."
