"I have never been a part of anything,"
The gold pegasus let his words sink in for a moment, not turning to look at him. The last thing she wanted was to make the other feel anxious, or put on the spot.
"But you have," She said softly, as if it were apparent a fact as any, "You're part of the Rainbow, at the very least. The yellow stripe," The peg mused, having calmed much in just the passing minutes since the talk with Tiger, "Intelligence.. a flower's pollen," She smiled briefly, turning to Hollow then back to the sea, "Sunshine."
"We couldn't be the Rainbow's Champions without you, as much as you could be a Champion without the rest of us," Her vivid imagination took flight on its own, as she sought happier thoughts and more peaceful surroundings.
"So, like it or not.. you're part of something now."

Hollow let the sea breeze blow through his black mane, sending a dozen silken ripples afloat over the dark corn coat. He stared out into the sea for a few moments in silence. The ocean was one of the few things that could lighten his heart anymore. There the signs of decay were so slow they could hardly be detected. The endless rise and fall of the waves was like a song that kept rolling effortlessly, right into his heart, it felt. He was woken into the clear sensation that his heart was indeed aching. Aching for the sweet words Jewel had spoken, and aching for the knowledge that in pursuit of something higher, better, grander, he had lost what was most precious to any creature - the ability to love. So he believed. And this time he indeed felt the pain over his loss.
He lifted his head up from the railing and looked at Jewel. There was an etheric quality about her that soothed him even as the ripple of time through her body, a vision only he could see, made his guts tighten with pain and horror. But her words had comforted him.
"Thank you for those words, seer," he said gently. He turned his eyes back to the ocean again, but this time he stood tall. The black silky strands tangled around his back feet as another breeze brushed though his tail. "There is a calming presence in the sea," he said, almost as though he spoke to himself. "I wish I could remain here for all time. Here... is the cradle of life."

"Thank you for those words, seer,"
"You're welcome," Jewel replied quietly, slightly mesmerized by the waves lapping against the front of the ship, and not having realized her words to be anything special at all.
"I wish I could remain here for all time. Here... is the cradle of life."
Hollow was right.. the sea was the beginning of things. The beginning of life long ago, the beginning of the food chain in some respects.
"Somehow," She said softly, narrowing her eyes, "I can't help but feel it's more of a coffin." A pause, "To me at least." Truth be told, the idea of the storm among other things never strayed far from her mind. Her expression turned slightly less positive as she murmured, "A pony should only die once, after all.."
What lay ahead for her now? She had died, and through the grace of a small gifted colt and the guidance of an old, old teacher's spirit, been brought back to her body. Was this a new life line? How old was she now? If she survived death, then..
...could she truly die again?

"Somehow," She said softly, narrowing her eyes, "I can't help but feel it's more of a coffin."
Hollow's other ear turned sharply toward Jewel. It was not something he thought, even if he knew there was death in the sea as well. But it was a force of its own to him - something eternal.
"A pony should only die once, after all.."
This made Hollow turn his entire head toward the pegasus mare, and there appeared a slight frown upon his face. He had seen that there was something special about Jewel, as well as there was something special about Kail - even if in a different way - but he had not suspected that Jewel had indeed walked past a death once already. Suddenly it became clear to him, as he examined her with his eyes. Of course. That was why he could not see her death ahead as clearly as most ponies, even though he could see death in her clearer than most. It was, in some ways, behind her - and in some ways, ahead. Or was it?
"You know death, don't you?" he asked with an almost hushed voice. "You've met it."
He nearly trembled. Though he could see death every day, he had never had any experience of what indeed happened in death. What kind of an experience was it for the spirit? What was there in the beyond? He had so many questions to ask. He wondered if Jewel could answer any of them.

"You know death, don't you?" he asked with an almost hushed voice. "You've met it."
Time stood still for endless awkward seconds. Jewel remained frozen in place, unsure how to answer Hollow's question. Or if she wanted to. Or really.. if she even could.
At long last, she found her voice again.
"Some encounters.. are best off forgotten." And with that the pegasus chanced a glance to the corn-colored stallion, then another to the darkening sky, and turned from her fellow champion.
"Smells like dinner is ready. We should go join the others."

Hollow was slightly disappointed, but in some ways... he had expected such an answer. He drew his ears back a little, then put them forward again in a friendlier manner, and smiled a little.
"Yes," he said. "Let's go eat."
He then turned, shaking his mane a little. He hoped he might get another chance to talk with the golden pegasus. Perhaps he'd someday tell her about his encounters with death. He didn't know. He wondered what the others would have said had they known his secret. His golden eyes scanned the empty ship deck quietly, not really searching for anything, or simply resting in the nothingness. Despite everything, he still did not feel like he completely belonged. Would he ever?

Kail had watched silently as her companions all headed below deck for the food that was making her stomach groan itself. Perhaps she should go down below and eat before starting off on her flight? She had already told them she was planning to take a quick one, so they wouldn't be at all surprised if she left right after a bite to eat.
But then she had also promised Jewel could go along, and Kail thought perhaps that Jewel wouldn't be up to stealing onto another pirate ship. She didn't seem the piratey type. Then again, neither was Kail, but at least the seagreen peg could hold her stomach on rough seas.
Looking back once more towards the stairs that lead to the galley below, Kail spread her wings loosly and hopped deftly over the side of the ship, catching the wind that had been displaced by the large hull and floating back. She would let the ship get a ways ahead before flying past - she didn't think the sight of her flying past the windows would do her much good. But dark was falling and if she could reach the other ship in the middle of the night it would be better than trying to stow away in the light.
(continued in a new thread for the other ship, which I haven't made yet)

Razz, on the other hand, felt rather sleepy where he was standing down below deck. With a few flutters of his eyelids, he slunk back against the wall, slipped behind a loose boad, and promptly fell into a deep sleep. The board flipped back into place, leaving only his tail showing, but of course he didn't notice.
He was picking candy flowers from the meadow when he felt a strange thumping on his tummy. Looking down, he gave it a poke and it poked back! Whoa!
Sweet! he thought, I have a bun in the oven!

(Sil had to give that sort of thing up when she found out she had a bun in the oven.)
(*bounces*)
(But at least she's made good friends with the toilet these past few months!!!)
Razz paused to consider.
Wait...how on earth did I get a bun in my oven? I don't even have an oven? Do I?
I shall have to ask Kail about this. I bet she would know.
And with that he went back to picking candy flowers.
